Last time we chatted, you were sitting on your nice deck enjoying the colors of early fall with a pumpkin spice beer in your hand. (I am still judging you for that flavor choice by the way) Now your panicking because you dozed off for a moment and woke to find it is December 1st! In place of a refreshing chill in the air, you now have icicles forming on your nose. When did this happen? How did this happen? Wasn’t it just August a week ago?! Snap back to reality for a moment and answer me this….did you ever order those snow guards your other half asked you to get? Oh boy…you’re in trouble now. That’s a nice doghouse over there…it looks like it just might fit you and Rover.
I’m just kidding. All hope is not lost and you still have some options for protecting your roof and gutters this winter. You had better work quickly, though, because those clouds in the sky are getting dark. Unfortunately, it is too late this year to install one of our individual polycarbonate guards on your roof with liquid adhesive. That requires approximately 28 days at 50 degrees or above and you haven’t seen 50 degrees in about a week. If you have a mechanically fastened roof panel, however, with exposed roofing screws, you can install one of either our polycarbonate or stainless steel guards with mechanical fasteners. Your first step should be to visit www.SpacingTool.com to get a FREE layout. Just make sure that you are sealing the guards properly to prevent roof leaks.
Now, if you have a standing seam metal roof, you DO NOT want to attach guards to your roof with penetrating mechanical fasteners. These panels are specifically designed to float on your roof and interlock with each other by utilizing a series of hidden fasteners and clips. Screwing anything into a standing seam metal roof will cause potential for major damage due to the way the panels flex during expansion and contraction. For these roofing types, you have 2 choices.
The first of these two choices is our SnowBreaker3M product. The SnowBreaker3M is a clear polycarbonate guard that can be installed with the use of 3M double sided tape. This particular guard works as a cutter or snow-breaker to slowly break up snow and ice on your roof, allowing it to shed safely and gently. Because this guard is not supporting weight in the way that a normal snow guard would, it can be installed with double sided tape to great effect. This option will not hold the snow and ice on your roof, but it will greatly decrease the potential damage and danger of your roofs snow load. The double sided tape does not require a curing period like our Surebond SB-190 adhesive, so it is a great solution for the procrastinator in us all. You can get a FREE layout for this product at www.SpacingTool.com as well.
Option #2 will actually work with almost any kind of roofing, including standing seam. I’m, of course, talking about our SnoBar, ColorBar, and ColorRail systems. These fence-type snow retention systems can be attached to your roof in various ways and any time of the year. For standing seam metal roofs, they will use a non-penetrating clamp-on system. For corrugated or other exposed fastener roofs, these systems use a screw down attachment method with brackets that support the bars above the roof surface. While the unit pricing for these systems is a bit higher, the amount of rows needed is normally much lower, which will drastically reduce the amount of labor needed for installation. We have various styles and finishes that can match any color of roofing. To begin the ordering process, you want to visit the following link and fill out the form with your project’s information.
Once your request is received, our specialists will begin designing and quoting a system that is perfect for you and in-line with your budget and taste.
See now…you aren’t too late to make this happen. Maybe you won’t have to spend the night with the dog after all. Let’s be honest…she would have let him stay in the house anyhow. Hurry up and get onto www.Snojax.com right away! It is time to order snow guards. Consider it the gift of safety for yourself and your family this Holiday!
